Melissa Holmes wanted to join the Order of the Eastern Star after receiving her majority from the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in 1974. At the time, the membership requirements and her lack of Masonic family ties meant she could not join.
Her husband, David, became a Master Mason at McMakin Lodge in 2004. Members of Mt. Healthy Chapter #365, which meets in the same Temple, made sure he received two membership petitions. Melissa and David were initiated in June 2009, and Melissa has been an active member ever since.
What keeps her coming back? The fellowship and fraternal camaraderie she shares with her sisters and brothers, along with the Order’s ceremonies and ritual work.
For Melissa, the love and fellowship shared in Eastern Star mean there is always a friend to be found. Its charitable work is just as meaningful: serving others with loving kindness is at the heart of her experience.
